An Awareness Space Against Violence Toward Women at Üçyol Metro Station

To mark November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality opened an awareness space at Üçyol Metro Station. A drawing by award-winning cartoonist Halit Kurtulmuş Aytoslu was turned into a mural by Yunus Şahin and Mustafa Deniz Kubilay.

The piece is based on the work that won third place in the municipality’s international cartoon competition, which drew 160 artists from 62 countries. Sending a powerful message to the thousands of people who pass through the metro station every day, the project showed once again how art can raise awareness in public spaces.

Works like this in public spaces both enrich the visual fabric of the city and raise awareness of social issues.
